About the Sedara Senarath Group
A Sri Lankan family group founded in 1991 by Dr Sanjaya Sedara Senarath, now in its second generation of family management.
Who we are
Sedara Senarath Group of Companies is a Sri Lankan family-owned group founded in 1991 by Dr Sanjaya Sedara Senarath. Its interests span fuel and transport, licensed retail, commercial property, hospitality and cultivation, together with the philanthropic work of the Sanjaya Foundation.
The Group began outside Sri Lanka, in international tea trading in Russia, before expanding into shipping and then turning towards home. Today its portfolio comprises SSS Fuel & Transport, SSS Wine Stores and the Vintara Wine Stores brand, Vintara Properties, Vintara Eco, Polhena Villa & Estate, and the Sanjaya Foundation.
Following the passing of Dr Sanjaya Sedara Senarath in 2025, the Group continues under the leadership of his family, carrying forward long-standing business interests while developing each company for the next generation.
How the Group grew
The Group was founded in 1991 by Dr Sanjaya Sedara Senarath, whose earliest ventures were international: tea trading in Russia, followed by shipping.
The business then diversified at home - first into hospitality and a hospital, then licensed retail, fuel and transport, commercial property and cultivation. Each addition was made to be held, not traded.

Fuel-station retail, distribution and commercial fuel transport, operating from Hakmana in the Matara district.
Licensed retail outlets across Matara and Hambanthota, trading as SSS Wine Stores.
Commercial buildings in prime Colombo locations, owned for the long term and leased as office accommodation.
Vintara Eco at Gonnoruwa, Hambanthota - a nature-focused resort set in wildlife-rich country.
Polhena Villa & Estate at Hakmana - a private hilltop villa within a working coconut estate.
Working coconut plantations on the Polhena estate and at Gorakawatha, our other estate.

Leadership and continuity
Following the passing of its founder in 2025, the Sedara Senarath Group entered its second generation of family stewardship. The Group is led by Mr Vinuk Sedara Senarath, together with Dr Manjula Sedara Senarath and Ms Tharuki Sedara Senarath.
Their approach is one of continuity rather than change: protecting the businesses and relationships built over generations, maintaining responsible management, and developing the Group's fuel, retail, property, hospitality and community interests for the years ahead.
The Sanjaya Foundation carries the founder's name and continues his commitment to community service through annual medical camps, charitable donations and disaster relief.
